Daily Devotion — Revelation 3:20 — Knocking at Your Door
“Listen, I am standing and knocking at your door. If you hear my voice, open the door and I will come in. We will eat together.” (Revelation 3:20 CEV)
Knocking At My Door
I still vividly remember the knock on the door. My bags were packed, and I was ready to go. I had just heard from my friend who told me he was about 30 minutes away. My ride was on the way, but there was an unexpected and anxious knock on my door. I opened the door, and it was my dad. He came in and sat down. Then, he told me not to go. I was an adult, in my mid 20’s and my dad was here sitting in my living room…telling me not to go. Then, without explanation, he said, “You should also give up this apartment and come back home…get yourself together there…with us!” There was something different in his voice. I heard…no, I felt anxiety, heartbreak, uncertainty. My strong, confident father appeared different that day. Two days later, I turned the key in the lock, and I was home. I didn’t know it then, but years later, my mom told me that when my dad saw my car pull up in the driveway, he went upstairs and broke down in tears. His son was home.
