Daily Devotion — Proverbs 3:5–6 — Trust in the Lord
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5–6 NKJV Trusting in the Lord is so important, but sometimes so difficult. You love the Lord and you are thankful for every single blessing He has chosen to bestow upon you. But what do you do when you are going through hard times, and you have prayed and all you seem to hear from God is silence? How do you hold on to your faith in such circumstances?
Doing It On Our Own
Sometimes we feel we must do things on our own and we focus so much energy on finding the way ourselves, that our minds become confused and our faith begins to waiver. We know we must do the work, but we must have trust and faith that God will, not only show us in which direction to go, but He will have our rewards waiting for us when we get there, thanks to His grace and mercy.
How Do We Trust in the Lord to Handle It All
So how do we achieve this? How can we make sense of all that is going on in our lives, and still trust in the Lord to handle it? First, we must give it to God, laying all our fears and worries and problems at His feet. Try not to think of this as a difficult task. In fact, that’s actually the easy part. The hard part is not picking it back up. That is the second thing. So many times we will go to God in prayer and truly empty ourselves of all the pain and anxiety we are going through, but the next day we find ourselves, once again, worrying about those same problems. Why would we worry if we truly gave it to God because faith shows us it will be taken care of. We can’t do any of it alone, but only through true faith and trust in the Lord, can we accomplish these goals. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 God has such a beautiful plan for our lives. Isn’t it about time we allow Him to reveal the plans He has for each of us, so that we may flourish in rich, new lives, grounded in Christ Jesus?
