After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, to fulfill the Scripture, *said, “I am thirsty.” A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so they put a sponge full of the sour wine upon a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth. Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. John 19:28–30 NASB

Satan Rejoiced

The day was shrouded in darkness. All evil had been placed upon Jesus and He hung, pierced, on the cross. The Father, the Holy One, God of Israel — could not bear to look upon His Beloved Son; He had to turn away, and as He left the Temple those many years ago, so He left again.

As the Father left, the enemy — the devil, that serpent of old, rejoiced at his victory. He’d done it! He now would rule over all mankind; they were his….. The Savior, the One he’d been jealous of from all eternity, the One he was created to serve, was dead. He beamed bright — Lucifer — his raiment shimmered and shone in the darkness. He now controlled the fate of the world; he would destroy the remaining few disciples of Jesus. Already he had controlled and betrayed Judas, Peter had denied the Christ and fled the scene shortly thereafter; it was only a matter of time before he had them all in his clutches with fear. Fear, yes, fear; keep them fearful! In his own diabolical mind, he thought to himself, “I will soon be their new rabbi; I will lead them in MY ways, lead them in fear.” And the cackling turned into a wicked, evil laugh.

The Blood Sacrifice

The Father, after turning from Jesus, rent His garment — the veil in the Temple tore from top to bottom. The buildings shook; the pain of what His Son had willingly endured pierced His heart. He and the Son were no longer One. The sin that Jesus willingly took upon Himself insured that. Jesus willingly agreed to this torture. Who else, but a loving, adoring Son, would leave His throne in Heaven to fight the most fearsome battle of the ages. To think, one of the created servants — the chief of the ministering angels, had tried to usurp the throne. However, the Father had a plan, one the usurper was too full of himself to see. The Seed that had just been planted would come forth and be given back to the Father as an Offering — the First Fruit. The shell the Son was wrapped in now was being broken apart, the new Life stirring. It started with the blood, the pure blood of an innocent sacrifice who willingly took the shame and pain and very darkness itself upon Himself.

Yes, The Father would receive His Son back, but He had to wait. A day is like a thousand years and a thousand years, like a day, but what was time to the Father? He, the Son and the Spirit had created time. When man was cast from the Garden because of sin, they were cast from Eternity into one time dimension, and it would take years. Some of the children cried for a redeemer, felt the longing of the lost eternity in their hearts and longed for a way back.

But the usurper, that devil-dragon was able to plant doubt and fear into the minds and hearts of the Father’s children over the ages. Did he not cause Adam to doubt, Abraham to doubt? That was his cunning, plant a small seed into the truth and wait for the weeds of doubt and fear to spring forth.

The Father Knew It Is Finished

The Father smiled to Himself. The usurper had forgotten He knew everything. And as He smiled, the Father thought, “he will doubt. When I receive My Son back, he will doubt, he will fear, and he will be more dangerous in his tactics.” Then the Father looked from the hill of Calvary into eternity future, to the final end of this one-dimension of time, the one that held humanity, the one holding His Son captive, and He smiled. He and His Son, along with all the children His Son gained because of the Great Sacrifice, would soon be united. The Spirit would gather them in and His Son, the King, Who is the likeness and fullness of the Father, will rule and reign supreme. “Yes,” the Father thought, “It is finished.”
