God Still Speaks Today

Therefore, my dear brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. — 1 Corinthians 15:58

It was one of those “moments.” You have an intense, overwhelming vision of what you are supposed to do next. God gives me my best ideas in the middle of the night. I guess I’m more receptive without the outside stimuli. That’s why I fully believe that God still speaks today. It requires action on our part, and the desire to do so. In order to listen, we need to be silent. “Listen” and “silent” use the same letters, arranged differently.

In the early hours one morning, I was directed to post some of my own studies from God on a blog. As the above verse states, I must work. I’ll do my part and have found the rule of three works best. Three strikes and I’m out, or third time’s a charm. So for two days, I looked up Christian blog sites and emailed them to see if I could become a contributor. Not one replied.

So on day three, I typed top Christian blog sites into a Google search page, and devotableapp.com popped up. I emailed and received a reply in about fifteen minutes. The creator of the site was super helpful and provided direction for a newbie like me. Shortly after, he asked me how I found his site. I told him, and after I did, I typed the same words in the search engine, and devotableapp.com was nowhere to be found! God speaking, again!

Plunging Forward in Obedience

It was suggested that I should create my own blog site. Being clueless, I plunged forward and persevered. It turned out to be a relatively painless process. Now, what to call it? Every day I receive a Bible verse sent to my email. As I was praying and pondering, I opened it and the verse I’m using for this devotion was in it. I read it and laughed out loud! I do that when God speaks to me, as I am delighted and filled with joy, that He loves me and desires a relationship with me. Hence, my site name.

I already had something written, so I figured out how to put it on the page, and boom! My first post! I rejoiced with thanksgiving and asked God right then to use this venue to bless people and have it bring them closer to Jesus. Reflecting on this experience, it reminded me that I have to persevere: to persist in spite of difficulties. In fact, I’ve grown more spiritually during difficult times.

God Still Works

I’ve seen God work in my life in the past. I know He will work in my life in the future. I have to rely on His timing. Sometimes I get a “not yet”, and I need to be patient. When He has given me a “no”, and I look back now and see how bad it would have been if I moved ahead. He knows what is best for me, and I know in my heart that I will continue to love and serve Him, regardless of the outcome.

So I serve in obedience, knowing that nothing I do for the Lord is wasted. Even if I blow it and mess up, He is powerful enough to turn it into something good. So keep on keeping on, and don’t do all the talking. Give God a chance to respond, and you will be amazed at what He will tell you.

He is well worth the effort in your listening!
