Do It Again Lord
Have you ever been so overwhelmed by the works of Satan that you could hardly take it anymore? Have you been tempted to think that the Lord has allowed the enemy to triumph over you? Does the burden of Satan’s constant attacks make you feel like giving up? Learn a lesson from the seldom-read prophet, Habakkuk.
Habakkuk was in a state of despondency because the enemies of God seemed to triumph. It seemed like they had unfettered ability to oppress God’s people and His cause. After inquiring of the Lord, and receiving counsel as did Job in the midst of his distress, he began to evaluate God’s resume. He said that He had heard of the mighty works God had performed for His people of old, and longed to see the same mighty works in his day. He wanted the Lord to be vigilant over the wicked, yet merciful to His own people.
As Habakkuk recounted the incredible acts of God, he spoke of the power God had over the land, air, and rivers of water. He spoke of the command God demonstrated over the sun, moon, and stars. He recalled the fact that the Lord has dominion over even the mountains, which have stood for centuries. They all tremble at the voice of God. Likewise, His enemies trembled when He has appeared to vindicate His people. “Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, even for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah. Thou didst strike through with his staves the head of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.” Habakkuk 3:13, 14.
As the Lord has vanquished His human enemies, He has utterly defeated the enemy of us all. The Bible says that the promised seed, Jesus Christ, would crush the head of the serpent, and certainly that is the case. At Calvary, the Lord struck the enemy with a deadly blow. Over the devil’s weapon of death, the Lord emerged victoriously. The devil thought he could keep our Savior in the grave, but early one Sunday morning, Jesus arose as the absolute victor over the grave, hell, and death.
Whenever you feel taken advantage of by the devil, recount the mighty works that the Lord has performed in the past. Remember His works of old and be encouraged. Ask Him to strengthen your faith making you His faithful follower. One day, sin and sinners will be no more. God’s people will finally experience ultimate rest, and we shall reign forever with the Lord. Until then, praise His holy name.
“When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops. Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.” Habakkuk 3:16–19
